Service Description

ORNAMENTAL SPENCERIAN CAPS & VARIATIONS LEVEL intermediate, advanced. Students must have an understanding of the basic forms of the capitals. DATE AND TIME Thursday, July 25 and Friday, July 26 11:30 am - 1:30 pm EDT (East Coast United States) DESCRIPTION The class Spencerian form is quite beautiful, but by adding well formed and ornate flourished capitals, the possibilities are endless! In this workshop, we will study a variety of beautifully decorated capitals, learning how to construct them by adding additional layers to the basic form of the letters and varying the placement of the dramatic shading. Techniques such as repeated ovals, spirals, alternate ending and beginning forms will complete our study of the capitals. Learning the strokes of a simple cartouche design will complete the class. MATERIALS oblique pen holder your favorite pointed pen nibs - Hunt 22 or Zebra G nib is ideal for beginners, others recommended are Hunt 56, Gillott 303 or 404, any of the G nibs, or Leonardt Principal Sumi Moon Palace, McCaffteys Black, or Walnut Ink Canson Pro-Marker Pad, 9x12 A small sheet or two good quality black paper, such as ArtAgain Dr. Martin's Bleed Proof White A recording will be available for 2 months, with option to extend.
