LEVEL All Levels COURSE DESCRIPTION This class combines 2 writing tools, a brush and a pen. This introductory class is perfect for those wanting to become more familiar with the pressure and movement needed for the pointed nib, but also for students with knowledge of the tool who would like to expand their design options. Using a selection of basic shaded strokes the student will learn the technique needed to control the downward pressure, and forward motion, and so become familiar with many of the same motions that are used in lettering. We will create beautiful line work and textures to use in wreaths and borders. We will also explore easy painted elements to use in our design, such as mistletoe, holly, poinsettia and berries. Using a pointed brush, we will select a festive palette and paint these elements and learn how to place them in our designs. You will learn : how to create simple shaded strokes and combine them into ornamental flourish designs how to paint seasonal motifs to add texture to the penwork, including holly leaves, wheat sprays and berries and other unique textures. how to design seasonal motifs to be used as borders, to enhance envelopes or lines of text and how to place them effectively. how to use a small pointed brush to produce a variety of painted elements DATE AND TIME The class will be two sessions of 2 hours each on Thursday, Dec. 4, and Friday, Dec. 5, EST (East Coast of US) via Zoom SUPPLIES Oblique pen holder, or straight pen holder several pointed pen nibs such as Hunt 22, 56, or Gillott 303, Tiger or Leonardt Principal, or your favorite layout bond paper, such as 9" x 12" Canson Pro Layout Marker several small sheets of Arches Cold Press Paper, 90 lb. is fine Moon Palace Sumi Ink, or Walnut Ink Small round brushes, size 1 and 3.
