DESIGNING WITH FLOURISHED LETTERS This is part of the Design Studio series, where we work on designing and producing a project we may encounter in the studio. COURSE DESCRIPTION In this class, our focus will be letter flourishes. We will first take a close look at the flourish forms used as part of a lower case letter, how and when they are used to enhance your text. Variations of ascender, descender, beginning and exit strokes will be included. Once we have this foundation, we will learn how and when to incorporate them into text. Using multiple line text samples, we will go from pencil draft to the final piece. Rounding out the class will be a look at one word designs, for example, how to enhance names on an invitation to create a focal point. Our projects will also consider phrasing, color choice, size of lettering type and size of paper, ruling the page, designing and executing the lettering. LEVEL -knowledge of classic copperplate letterforms. DATE AND TIME The class will be THREE 2-hour sessions on Thursdays, SEPTEMBER 14, 21 AND 28. 11:30 am - 1:30 pm EDT (East Coast United States) You must load Zoom on your computer, please email me if you need help setting this up.
